About Roberta Halpern

Roberta, a former English teacher in the public schools, has had a life long passion for the arts, and especially for dance. She has studied everything from classical ballet to African dance to Argentine Tango. While teaching, she also directed and choreographed both students and adults in the school's musical and dramatic productions.

As a teacher, and through her own spiritual journey, Roberta has observed that the arts- dance, music, visual arts, writing, spoken word, not only entertain and instruct, but also have power to heal. She believes that through connection to our natural creativity, which is often lost as we grow older, we can find our spirit and our authentic selves.

In 1999 Roberta was introduced to lomilomi, a sacred "dance of bodywork." Her connection to this work, was profound, like a "calling." She left her teaching job, and moved to Manhattan to continue this beautiful practice. Lomilomi, a powerful tool for transformation, lovingly reminds us to honor the great gift of our bodies and to continue that honoring in our daily lives.

Soon after moving to Manhattan, she became an Interfaith Minister and was asked to officiate at weddings. She continues to dance regularly with children and adults in her "Global Rhythms- Dance Without Borders" programs, and has expanded her love of world cultures with an interactive storytelling program "Global Voices" for younger children. Most recently, she has created "Global Tots," a creative movement program for ages 2-4 and their parents.

After 9 years of living in Manhattan, Roberta has recently moved to Center City, Philadellphia, where she has expanded her work to now include New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Roberta has created "Baby Boogie" for ages up to 18 months with their caregivers. Adults learn some tango, salsa, cha cha and more, while dancing with their new little partners!

Roberta believes that "we are all capable of taking part in our own healing, if we can listen to our inner voice" and "remember who we are in the fullness of our beings." She is grateful to all her teachers who have shared their wisdom and knowledge with her.
